Indoor & Rainy Day Activities

Rainbow over SeasideLike everywhere in the Pacific Northwest, Seaside gets its share of rain. But continuous precipitation is less common, especially during the months from April to October. Rainfall is more often in the form off and on showers. Showers can quickly break up and reveal clear skies and deliciously fresh air.

Local residents of Seaside know how hard it is to predict the marine weather here, and have learned to take the forecasted weather with a grain of salt. It is not unusual for the forecast to be entirely inaccurate, or for the weather here in Seaside to be the exact opposite of the Portland-metro area. But needless to say, storms can appear suddenly - something to keep in mind if you are planning a hike or walk on the beach.

If you find yourself in a rainy predicament in Seaside, don’t worry, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy until the storm clears. Below you’ll find a few ideas for rainy day activities.

Indoor Public Swimming Pool & Sunset Empire Recreation District

So you’re already wet from the rain? Why not hop on over to Sunset Empire on East Broadway and enjoy a nice swim in the public pools? Visitors can enjoy 3 pools, waterslide and hottub, open year-round 7 days a week, for a nominal fee. Programs, activities, and a Youth Center with pool table, ping pong, tv, games & more, means the entire family will have a great time.

Shopping - Indoor Malls

If it starts raining, duck into one of the many unique and charming shops along Broadway in downtown Seaside. Along with the individual specialty shops that line the street, there are several indoor shopping malls along Broadway, including SHEARWATER, the Carousel Mall, and Salmonberry Square. If you’ve had your fill of Broadway, check out the 25 stores at the Factory Outlet Mall.

Storm Watching

When the weather really gets going, there's nothing better than sitting back and watching the storm waves. In the Cove you can watch all the action from the comfort of your own car. Watch the storm roll in from over the horizon and huge waves crash against the rocks, and perhaps even see a rainbow over Seaside after the storm has passed!

Seaside Aquarium

Open year-round, the aquarium is a long time family favorite. Feed the lively family of harbor seals, explore the touch tank, and learn about fascinating underwater life through live exhibits and a friendly staff. In June 2006, 3 new seal pups were been born at the aquarium, brining the total number of harbor seals there to 14. This Aquarium is one of the oldest aquariums on the West Coast, and was the first in the world to successfully breed harbor seals in captivity. Since that time, they have maintained a long history of successful breedings, and raised their animals to enjoy life well beyond the average wild & captive lifespan. Visitors to the Aquarium will love feeding the seals and enjoying their playful antics. These seals are not trained by Aquarium staff, but have created their repertoire of tricks on their own. So if you get a chance, stop by the aquarium and check it out! The Aquarium is just 1 block North of Broadway on the Promenade.

Seaside Museum

Explore Lewis & Clark and Seaside history through exhibits, displays, photos, memorabilia and artifacts at the Seaside Museum on Necanicum Drive.

Seaside Cinemas

With 6 auditoriums, the latest new relases and big blockbusters, why not pass the time by catching a movie? Seaside Cinemas is located right next to the Factory Outlet Mall at Roosevelt (Hwy 101) and 12th Avenue.
